Before leaving the earth and following His resurrection, Jesus said…

“Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation.” Mark 16:15

He then goes on to say in verse 16, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

Have you ever wondered, “What is the Good News?” “What does it mean to be saved?”  “Can we really know for sure that we are going to heaven?”

Let’s look at these questions one at a time?

“What is the Good News?”

God sent His Only Son, Jesus, to earth to die for our sins.  Jesus, the only One who was perfect and who never sinned, took our sins upon Him at the cross.  Most people believe that if you’re a good person and you try your best to be nice, you’ll go to heaven.  But even the nicest person still has sin in their life, and sin cannot enter heaven.  The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  But here is the Good News found a little later in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Now this is Good News!

“What does it mean to be saved?”

Well, we are saved from our sins and from eternal separation from God.  Imagine living in eternity apart from God.  The Bible describes a place of eternal punishment.  Simply put, there is heaven and there is hell…the choice is ours to make.  Jesus told a story in Matthew 25 and in verse 41 he makes this statement to those who did not know Him (even though they thought they did), “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”  Let me ask you, wouldn’t you want to be saved from that type of eternity before you die?  The Good News is….you can be!

“Can we really know for sure that we are going to heaven?”

Yes!  Later in that same chapter in Matthew 25:46, Jesus says, “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”  The righteous?  If we are all sinners, how can you be righteous, made right before God when you stand before Him one day?  Well, don’t miss this… “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”(John 3:16).

Here’s what you must do to be sure you’re going to heaven:

Admit you are sinner in need of God’s forgiveness through His Son Jesus Christ who took your place on the cross and paid the ultimate price for your sins with His life.

Believe that He died for you and rose from the grave victoriously over sin and death and ask Him to forgive you…a sinner.

Confess that Jesus is not only your Savior, but Lord of your life!  Romans 10:9, 10 says, “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”  Believing with your heart that Jesus is Lord is the first step and confessing with your mouth is the next.  Begin to tell others that Jesus is your Lord and that you’re now following Him with your life…forgiven and free from the burden of guilt that sin brings.  This may be hard at first, but as the Bible says, “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  Ephesians 6:10

What should I do next?

Well, if you follow through with these next few steps, I guarantee you that you will find the joy of the Lord in your life to get you through everyday…no matter what!

1.)    Spend time in prayer each morning and ask Christ to walk with you throughout your day.

2.)    During this time in prayer, spend time in God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand the Scriptures.

3.)    Obey the voice of the Holy Spirit in your life continually.

4.)    Faithfully attend a Bible believing church that preaches the Good News of Jesus Christ and begin to use your gifts in serving the Body of Christ.

5.)    Support your church with tithes and look for ways to give offerings as well.

So, the choice is yours…eternal separation from God or eternal life with God…what’s your choice?
